This project began with a humble, timeworn house nestled at the base of a densely forested hill. While its original structure was full of character, it lacked functionality and had long been neglected. The client’s vision was simple yet ambitious: to create a serene family retreat that could coexist with nature, invite light in, and support a peaceful lifestyle.
Our team worked closely with the client to retain the original footprint of the house, while enhancing the layout for modern living. Carefully constructed wooden volumes were added to create more usable interior space while maintaining the overall proportions. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls were integrated into the design to open up each room to the garden, allowing for uninterrupted views and natural light throughout the day.
At the heart of the renovation was the creation of a dynamic indoor-outdoor relationship. The interiors now extend seamlessly into the garden, where winding stone paths and native trees define a quiet and contemplative space. Every bedroom now enjoys a transparent corner that blends privacy with connection to the outdoors.
The project also includes a thoughtful reorganization of interior functions. The previously cramped rooms have been reorganized into bright, breathable spaces where family members can relax, read, or simply enjoy the surrounding greenery. One side of the home now serves as a gathering space, with an open dining area under a double-height ceiling that celebrates the original timber beams, contrasted with crisp glass surfaces.
This transformation successfully preserves the soul of the old house while offering a warm, minimal, and light-filled experience for modern living.
